Linking
Ensure that your links are
site-specific. Signing-up for affiliate programmes just for the sake
of it and placing links all over your site is a mistake. Flashing,
colourful graphics may look very pretty, but too many of them can
distract from the content of your site. This just has the effect of
turning your site into a 'banner farm'. Only join those programmes
that are relevant to the content and/or users on your site and use
strategically placed banners sparingly.
Text Links
Do not underestimate the power of text links. They can be equally
as effective as graphical links, if used sensibly in the right
context.
Deep-Linking
This means that, instead of linking to a merchants home page,
you link to a section of their site or even a specific product. This
enables you to target your audience more effectively.
